17TH / EARLY 18TH C Hand Forged Wrought Iron Hearth Trammel Chain - THE BEST

We are pleased to offer this nice Hand Forged Wrought Iron Fireplace Trammel Chain.  This is not a standard Trammel Chain.  It has an elaborate design with well crafted iron work.
It starts with a large 4 1/2" diameter round ring from which it would have hung from a lug pole in a typical 17TH C Hearth.  The ring is followed by a large 16" hot twisted suspension rod that ends in two suspension hooks, then the rod is followed by six circular 2 1/2" diameter chain links, ending in another 14" hot twisted suspension rod topped with 2 suspension hooks, and ending in a great heavy duty pot suspension hook.   This versatile design allowed the cook to use the upper suspension hook(s) to smoke meat, and the lower rod suspension hook(s) were used to adjust Trammel Chain height.  Estimated overall length is 44 1/2".
This example is as good as trammel chains get in excellent condition with minor surface rust, please see photos.  It is in as found original condition.

he surface is in untouched with wonderful brown patina without any repairs or restorations.
