    Description

Original handbill measuring about 6" x 18" from Selwyn's Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. The theater was established by British born actor John H Selwyn and was open from 1867 to 1873 when it burned down. In 1870 it became the first Globe Theatre, which was the name it kept until the fire.
For the summer of 1869, the burlesque troupe of William Horace Lingard appeared at Selwyn's. Lingard came to America with his wife Alice Dunning Lingard in 1868. He became known as one of the funniest men of his time. He often appeared in drag, in the high fashion style of the era. He is best known for his vaudeville song: Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines.
Lingard managed the theater and put on the show Time Tries All, starring his wife, Alice Dunning and his sister Miss Dickie Lingard. They often were together and both had a long career. The show ended with the Burlesque Extravaganza: The Maid and The Magpie, which actually ended up on Broadway later that year.
The condition of the handbill is very good but it is mounted to board. I don't see any way to remove it from the board it is mounted on. The paper itself has very few flaws, other than toning and minor paper flaws that you can only see under magnification as the mounting was done very professionally.
    Shipping is Priority Mail
If you prefer to have two, I have a second bill from the same theatre, from 3 months earlier, when Selwyn was the acting manager of his theatre. For now, I am listing just the one.
    MEDIA MAIL:
The USPS allows books, records and other media to be mailed at a cheaper price than typical mail. It tends to be a much slower mailing process than standard mail. In addition, any employee of the USPS can open the package at ANY time for ANY reason to verify that what is inside is what should be inside. In most cases, the item is properly repackaged but in rare cases it is not, and an item can arrive damaged. As my feedback suggests, I package very carefully. If you receive a damaged item that has the appearance of having been poorly packaged, please contact me prior to leaving feedback so that it can be addressed.
