    Description

Custom Classic Trucks cover truck for August 2003 “Diver Advance Design Jimmy” 1949 GMC
    . Being built over a
nine-year period at a cost of over 0,000
set new standards for distinctive looks and features unlike any build of its time. The conceived forward thinking of Del Driver made this highly customized hauler into a work of art. The extensive list of awards shows a lifetime achievement. Working from the ground up started by grafting a Camaro IFS front clip, boxed the rails and cleverly C-notched the frame. Camaro 3.55.1 differential and rear suspension assembly including the spring hangers and leaf springs. This gives a 11-inch-lower ride height from factory GMC but retains the full suspension travel. Stopping power is ’79 Camaro front discs and rear drums. The chrome plated American Racing wheels and BFGoodrich radials 15x7 front and 15x9 rears. GM 350ci four-bolt main “Crate Motor” has Cool Flex hoses, Billet Specialties valve cover, breathers, air clean and March Performance Pulleys gleam like a mirror. The polished aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold with Edelbrock Performer four-barrel carburetor is the perfect touch. A GM 700-R4 automatic transmission with a shift-improvement kit makes for power to pavement a smooth transition. The hand formed Sheetmetal is in a class of its own. The Fleetside bed has been narrowed 14 inches and shortened 18 inches. The hand-built tonneau lid is all sheet metal and fully powered by a ram. Power is the key word such as windows, door locks, and engine hood! Ever see a ’49 GMC with a powered rear window? The batteries even have a state highway patrol-style jump kit. Starting from the rear forward on body modifications ’54 Chevy rear bumper upside-down, blended in rear fenders to bed, custom fuel filler door. The running boards have smooth look with the exhaust piping exit by the rear wheels. Chopped the cab 3-1/2 inches and sectioned 4 inches give a cool split front windshield. It took two grilles that had been widened in a stair-step fashion. The French headlights have handmade metal eye-lid shades that perfectly work the customized pancaked hood. The front fenders were widened 1 inch in the front and tapered to the rear. PPG Laser Red urethan tri-coat paint holds the show-standard shine. The interior is custom stitched tan European leather seat, hand formed door panels, and headliner. The cab floor and bed liner are in Mercedes tan wool carpet. No expense was spared in this world class build. You Tube video “1949 GMC Cover for Custom Truck Magazine”  More details at Pantherroadclassics.com
