1962 JAGUAR 3.8 LITER MK 2 SALOON: --Pearl Grey with Black leather interior, Black carpeting, Highly original, Triple carb 3.8 liter engine, 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, 83,000 original miles, Webasto folding sunroof, Wire wheels, Well-serviced over long-term ownership, 3-owners from new. Elegant and sporty, the 3.8 Mk 2 was one of the fastest four-door saloons in its day. It was stunning to look at and exceptional to drive. The 3.8 utilized a twin-carburetor variant of the engine for the E-Type. It shared the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons. With 220bhp, the engine hauled the MK 2 to a top speed of 126mph. This example of the 3.8 Mk 2 has been uprated and fitted with triple carburetors to match the E-type as well as a synchromesh overdrive gearbox from a 420G. E-Type power in this sporty saloon packs quite the vintage punch, it is great fun to drive. This Mk 2 was produced on March 28th, 1962 and sold through Jaguar Cars, New York. Its first owner ordered the car specified with a manual with overdrive, chrome wire wheels and a rare factory Webasto sunroof, most have been converted after factory build and do not have the aluminum sunroof frame as on this Mk2. Later, the car was transferred to his daughter who kept the car in Connecticut until 1987. A Londoner summering on the East End of Long Island acquired the car in 1987 and stored it properly both in East Hampton and in Connecticut depending on his travels. The Mk 2 was used whenever he was in town. With all service records during this long-term ownership since 1987, this Mk 2 always received proper maintenance and care regardless of use. Anything and everything was serviced and well-kept to ensure it was always in exceptional mechanical condition. Further upgrades include a Harvey Bailey handling kit, sound system, new headliner, new carpeting, E-Type wooden steering wheel (original included), new tires, an alignment and a recent full fluid service. Having just three owners from new, this Mk 2 is in superb condition throughout. All systems work as they should. A recent road test attests its being in excellent mechanical condition and extremely fun to drive, especially with his uprated handling kit and power steering. This Mk 2 includes its owner’s handbook, original carburetors and manifold, original steering wheel, original rear wheel spats, original complete tool kit, spare wheel, jack, hammer, service records and its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. This Mk 2 represents a great value for a collector or enthusiast seeking an enjoyable and fun vintage Jaguar sports saloon.
