Description
HistoryThis vehicle was initially purchased direct from Jaguar in Coventry by Mr W. Jones of Virginia and then shipped across the Atlantic in the steamer Saxonia. In the early 70's it came into the hands of the Burdo family of Connecticut. In 1991-92, Mr Burdo undertook an extensive restoration (receipts totally over ,000 are available).
Only 4000 miles have been added since the restoration. I purchased the vehicle in 2019 and moved it to Texas. Since purchase I have:
Converted from positive to negative ground
Upgraded generator to 70A alternator
Refurbished power steering box and pump by Vintage Jag in Indiana
Upgraded front suspension with poly-urethane bushes and sealed ball joints
Re-titled and registered in Texas
The original air-conditioning system is available but not fitted. I would personally favor a modern system from someone like RetroAir but frankly the installation is beyond me. Anyway, my other classic needs some love so I must reluctantly sell this Jaguar.
Condition
Structurally and mechanically the vehicle is in excellent condition. The underside is clean and solid. Rust is limited to two small (<1") rust bubbles on the left side (see pictures). The paint work is good but not perfect. (Note that the underside photographs are two years old but the current condition is not significantly different)
The engine starts easily with good acceleration, oil pressure and a beautiful exhaust note. The original induction system with 2 HD6 and electrical AED has been upgraded to a pair of HD8s, pancake filters and mechanical choke. The choke cable needs replacement.
The clutch and gearbox operate smoothly although the overdrive is a bit problematic and needs looking at. The brakes have been flushed and work fine.
Lights and horn are functional. Auxiliary electrical systems need some attention.
The carpets and leather seats are in excellent condition. There are a couple of chips in the woodwork and the carpet covering the strengthening cross member under the front seats is missing.
There is an almost complete original Jaguar tool box in the truck and I will leave the long handled knock-off wrench as it is so much easier than a lead hammer.
