This 1968 GMC C10 short box restomod really shows what you can do with an old pickup. This fresh frame-off build has plenty of custom touches that give a smooth, sleek look without sacrificing the truck’s identity. It has a significantly upgraded drivetrain with LS power and a 4L80E transmission for excellent performance at any speed. And with power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, and a great sound system it is a pleasure to drive as well.
This project took GMC’s fairly rugged 1968 C10 design and turned it into something beautiful. One of the biggest changes has to be replacing the front and rear bumpers with roll pans. This really streamlines and shrinks the shape, while the stepside bed with spare tire carrier keeps the body lines interesting. The custom tailgate is a nice touch as well. This truck has also been lowered and wears 20” wheels with lower profile tires (245/45 in front, 315/35 in back). I think it gives this C10 an amazing stance. The light blue paint and debadging treatment complete the sleek look. The bed was also redone with new wood while the metal pieces have textured bedliner under the paint. The underside of the truck has the same treatment.
The engine is a modern LS piece using an LQ9 6.0L iron block / aluminum head combination fitted with an LS2 intake. This strong, reliable setup has been tuned by Lindgren Supercars and produces approximately 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. It sounds great through the dual exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers. There is also an aluminum radiator with twin electric fans, and a Dirty Dingo bracket system for the power steering, air conditioning, and other accessories. The transmission is a robust 4L80E electronic overdrive unit feeding a custom driveshaft and Salisbury style rear end. This C10 has also been fitted with 4-wheel power disc brakes.
The interior has a factory look with its blue bench seat and steel dashboard. However there are a few changes. The fuel tank has been moved beneath the bed for more interior space. The gauge cluster mimics the original setup but is all electronic to work with the engine computer. The dash has a/c vents along with a Pioneer AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo and controls for the Vintage Air system. You will also find a tilt steering column and an OBD2 connector. Seat belts are provided for three passengers.
There are many types of classic pickups out there but this one really gets it right. It combines a complete restoration with a great collection of custom touches, a modern LS drivetrain, air conditioning, and a host of other improvements. The final product is a very unique truck that will stand out wherever it goes.
