    Description

Vehicle is being offered with free delivery. For details and conditions, see the terms of the offer at the end of the listing. Also, this Oldsmobile has been in indoor storage from 2011 until just a few months ago, so it looks as nice as a low mileage 2006 car, because it was only driven and exposed to the elements as long as a 2006 model would be. And it’s best to view the listing on a desktop or laptop computer. A smartphone won’t give you the same details.
This auction is for a one lady owner 1995 Olds Eighty Eight Royale finished in Light Beige Metallic with the Beige cloth interior. With just over 58,000 miles, it’s one of the lowest mileage examples of this generation you will find. It’s had over ,100 worth of new or recent parts and service, details of which are further down in the description. It’s powered by General Motors highly acclaimed 3.8 liter V-6 engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output, excellent economy and inherent smoothness. Code named L36 and better known as the 3800 Series II, it is considered to be one of the General’s best power plants next to the 350 V8, and has been in production since the 70’s up to 2008 in numerous iterations powering millions of GM cars. When many of today’s motors feature more complex but less durable aluminum engine blocks with complicated four-valve cylinder heads that require periodic valve adjustments and timing belt changes, this engine is a model of rock solid simplicity. It is a traditional American powerplant with a rugged iron block and simple 2 valve iron heads with a single cam and timing chain operating hydraulic lifters and pushrods. While the core of the engine is age old simple proven technology, it has all the modern systems like sequential port fuel injection for excellent gas mileage, roller rocker arms for reduced friction and distributorless ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions.
First available in 1995, the Series II is quite a different engine to the previous versions found in the 1994 and older models. It is also by far the most popular of the 3800 family for its power, smoothness, fuel efficiency, and reliability. Although the bore and stroke for the 3.8 liter engine remained the same, the rest of the engine architecture was vastly changed. The deck height is shorter than the Series I, reducing weight and total engine package size. This required that the connecting rods be shortened 1 inch and the crankshaft was also redesigned. Other changes included a new intake manifold with greatly improved airflow for better breathing, cross-bolt main bearing caps for greater strength and redesigned cylinder heads featuring larger valves and a higher compression ratio of 9.4:1. The result was 205 hp (a large increase over the 170 hp of the previous year) and 230 lb ft. torque, better fuel economy while still using regular grade gas, and 26 lb lighter overall weight to 392 lb. This 3800 engine weighs only 22 lb more than the all-aluminum High Feature V6 that currently dominates GM's six-cylinder applications, despite being an all cast-iron design. The 3800 Series II was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1995 through 1997.
The engine is mated to a Hydramatic 4T60-E 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. It is also considered to be one of GM’s best and most trouble free front wheel drive transmissions. It has a low first gear that provides brisk acceleration, while the high top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent gas mileage. When driven with restraint, you can get over 30 mpg on the highway, and with the large capacity 18 gallon fuel tank, you should be able to go over 500 miles between fill-ups. Complementing the Eighty Eight’s powertrain is a chassis made to smooth out your daily commute while still having fun on twisting roads. It has a four wheel independent suspension with a rear stabilizer bar for excellent handling, rack and pinion steering for precise road feel, and large diameter Anti-Lock (ABS) heavy duty brakes for sure stops. This is a car that is quicker, faster and handles better than many other full size vehicles in its class.

The car is in great condition inside and out. It has an excellent dent-free body with no significant nicks or dings, just a few random touched up paint chips or scratches here and there. I just had the roof, hood and front fenders repainted as the clearcoat was fading. A small section on top of the right fender wasn’t sanded smooth so it looks a bit uneven close-up. All the glass, moldings, trim and emblems are in great shape as well. The right front aluminum wheel has some areas of cosmetic corrosion under the clearcoat but the other three are very clean.
The interior is nearly immaculate. It has beautiful upholstery, dashboard, door panels and carpet with no rips or tears or any significant signs of wear or dirt. I just had the headliner replaced because it was sagging like most GM cars of this era seem to do, and the rear quarter trim panels were recovered as well. (Price out a headliner job on these cars to appreciate how much value this adds to the vehicle.) The car doesn‘t appear to have been smoked in. The trunk looks like it was hardly ever used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of.
Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The engine starts instantly whether hot or cold and runs strong and feels smooth both at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range. The transmission shifts smoothly and precisely. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsation or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows cold. It has a matching set of four of Michelin tires all with like new tread. They have been balanced with balance weights mounted on the inside of the wheel for a clean look. It comes with a real spare tire that doesn’t look to have ever been used. All the electrical parts I can think of are working. All the power windows go up and down, all the power door locks work, the remote keyless entry works, the power seat works, the cruise control works, the radio works, the power antenna works except the mast sticks at times so you have to give it push or pull to get it all the way in or out, all the gauges work, all lights inside and out work.
The car has been fully checked out and serviced with over ,100 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original GM, AC Delco or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. Overall this is a sharp looking example of Oldsmobile’s last generation of full size cars which you don’t see on the road much any more. It’s a nice daily driver or weekend cruiser. The car was declared a total loss in 2009 when it was 14 years old. According to the AutoCheck history report at the top of this listing, it says No Accidents Reported, so it may have been stolen and recovered or vandalized. It doesn’t take much damage to total out a 14 year old car. The title is marked as REBUILT SALVAGE.

Remember you are buying a car, not a piece of paper. Salvage history on car that’s more than 15 or 20 years old means very little in terms of reduced value. It maybe a cliché to say a car was driven by a little old lady only to church on Sundays, but it may be true in this case. The owner was a lady who only drove it 3,500 miles a year. And it’s been a one owner southern vehicle from Maryland all it’s life which probably explains why it’s so clean. I got it in 2011 and had it in storage until just a few months ago, which is why I did all the servicing on it. Because it’s over 25 year old, in some states it’s exempt from emissions inspections and personal property tax (Virginia), eligible for historic, vintage, antique, etc. tags (Maryland) and qualifies for classic car insurance that costs under 0 a year.
The car comes with all the books:
And two factory remotes and sets of factory keys:
If you are serious about buying a very low mileage full size car from this era, this is about as low as they go in this nice condition. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on soon after getting it home. With this car you won’t have to spend ,000 for a transmission, you won’t have to spend ,000 on new upholstery, you won’t have to spend 0 for a new headliner, you won’t have to spend 0 for a new set of tires, you won’t have to spend 0 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend 0 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend 0 on a coolant and brake flush, you won’t have to spend 0 on a tune-up and filters service, and you won’t have to spend 0 on any upcoming scheduled maintenance. With many of the other listings on Ebay, Craigslist or on dealers lots, you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery. Also, when comparing this car to the others listed, keep in mind that this vehicle runs excellent, is fully serviced, hasn’t been smoked in and is clean inside and out.
If you are looking for a full size Oldsmobile in nice condition at a good price, then this one is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for 0 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at 0 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk losing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money, you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him. Especially those auctions that are private listings where it says “User ID kept private.” Also, don’t think that you will get a much better deal if you just keep bidding it up instead of using B.I.N., especially if you need it delivered.
TERMS OF THE AUCTION ARE AS FOLLOWS
: Since this car may be advertised locally, auction can be canceled at any time (unless auction ended early with BUY IT NOW) due to prior sale without liability to any bidder. A down payment of 0 (plus any additional delivery charge) is required within 3 days of the close of the auction, balance due in cash on delivery or certified funds on delivery if I deliver it or you pick it up, or before it’s dropped off at the transporter if a shipping company is transporting it, but no later than 7 days after the close of the auction without prior agreement. I accept bank or certified checks, money orders, credit cards through PayPal (accepted for down payment only). If paying balance with funds other than cash, buyer to email or fax copy of monetary instrument no less than 24 hours before picking up vehicle.
The car is sold as is. Buyer is welcome to inspect car BEFORE the end of the auction or to have someone check it out on your behalf provided you authorize whoever is checking the car to provide me with a copy of the results. I have tried to accurately describe this car, both mechanically and cosmetically but you can expect a certain amount of minor flaws on ANY used car including squeaks, rattles, drips, nicks, chips, scratches, blemishes and any other marks that are consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. There is no possible way to include all minute details and imperfections, however, I believe my listing accurately depicts this vehicle and if there are any issues they are noted in the description. Also remember that a vehicle is made up of thousands of mechanical parts and components and in an older or higher mileage used vehicle a part that is working fine now may go bad the next day, in a week, or a month from now. It’s nearly impossible to tell when a particular part or component will fail as most don’t exhibit prior symptoms, however, proper preventative maintenance as this car has received, can prevent most problems or breakdowns from happening.
In fairness to all bidders the reserve price will not be disclosed so please don’t even ask.
Buyer responsible for transportation and car must be paid for in full before it can be released. May deliver. Email or call for delivery quote or for any other questions. [email protected] Maryland, District of Columbia and West Virginia dealer. Phone 202-246-5201. Please do not bid if you don’t intend to buy.
