Description
REDUCED!!This beautiful oak fireplace mantle is made with tiger (quarter sawn) oak. It is circa 1900 and is one of four that were removed from a mansion in Pasadena, California. This fireplace mantle is an architectural piece of furniture which projects the grandeur that was present in Pasadena at the turn of the 19th century.
It is 87” high, 60½” wide with the fireplace opening being 41¼” wide by 38¾” high. The depth is 13” in the mantle area. All of the glue joints are in good shape or are such that they can be re-glued with little effort. The finish on the wood is excellent and has that warmth and glow that only comes with age. While it may not be evident from the photos, the surfaces at the top curve inward. The bevel glass mirror, which is still good considering its age, is about 32” high and 40” wide. The columns on the sides are 3¾” in diameter. I am not sure if the finish is a varnish or shellac, but in either case it is in excellent condition.
There are 3 areas where a corner has been chipped (see close up photos).
This is an extremely beautiful piece of Americana, which will be the center of focus in any room where it is placed.
